
Stop living small, start living the life you want
Welcome to my Mindset 101 Series! Throughout this series I will be sharing the fundamentals of mindset work. In this episode I’m going to discuss:
- What are limiting beliefs?
- What is keeping you living a “small” life?
- How can you make decisions that lead to the life you truly want?
I define “limiting beliefs” as self-imposed thinking that prevents growth, transformation, or change. The way that we think and the stories we believe to be true will either promote achieving the goals we want, or will keep us from reaching them. Our ability to get what we want depends on the beliefs we choose to operate from.
If we are driven by fixed or limited thoughts and beliefs, it creates roadblocks along the journey to creating what you really desire. Letting go of the stories you have that are limiting and adopting new beliefs that support and align with your goal and propel you towards bigger, greater things is the key to creating a life that really lights you up and blows your mind.
Limiting beliefs are often rooted in fear, scarcity, and lack, and are driven by the primal brain. Our default mode as humans is to be conscious of things that are dangerous or risky, to be worried that we might not have enough of things or access to more when we need it, and to look for the gap of what is missing. While this line of thinking keeps us safe and protected, it also has us living very small, boxed in, and limited.
The opposite, is to operate from beliefs rooted in love, abundance, and trust. When we have awareness and power over our thinking, we can notice the limiting thoughts that may arrive first, and then shift them into thoughts that come from a place of love, abundance, and/or trust.
When we make decisions, big or small, our choices are made from thinking that is based in fear, scarcity, and lack OR thinking that is based in love, abundance, and trust. These choices either keep you living small and confined to your current life – which means you keep replicating the same results over and over – OR your choices open and expand you and your life into greater possibility.
When potential clients are considering working with me, their default thinking driven by fear, scarcity, and lack often takes over and prevents them from making a powerful decision for themselves. They are afraid that coaching won’t work for them, they feel like their money and/or time is scarce and they believe they must grip tightly to them for a (false) sense of security, and they see the lack of results they’ve created in the past through traditional diet and exercise and think they are bound to fail again. The irony is that they ensure they are going to continue creating the same overweight body they have now by choosing to stay safe and small in their current thinking.
Nothing has gone wrong, this is exactly how your brain is made to function. But as a coach, it’s my job to walk them through their natural inclination to be in fear, scarcity, and lack, and towards making a decision from love, abundance, and trust, no matter whether their decision is to work with me or not.
I want you to think about a current decision you want to make.
- What would it look like to make your decision from love, abundance, and trust?
- What would you do if you100% trusted that you would get the results you dream of?
- What if you believed you always had enough money/time/energy/committment to invest in changing your life forever?
- What if you prioritized yourself and your actions from a place of love instead of fear?
- What chances might you take?
- What possibilities would you open yourself up to?
- How much greater could your life become?
- What are you missing out on or holding yourself back from by remaining rooted in fear, scarcity, and lack?
Noticing your limiting beliefs and stories and when you are making decisions based in fear, scarcity, and lack will change everything for you. Shifting into love, abundance, and trust and letting go of the thinking that keeps you small is the secret to growth, transformation, and change, and creating the life of your dreams!
